WHERE IT BEGINSOUR ACADEMY & CLINICS
The Program is all about introducing the sport to new players, providing opportunities for individuals of all ages and skill levels to get involved, and promoting rugby as an inclusive and accessible sport. It forms the basis for the growth and sustainability of rugby in a particular region or country & contributes largely to the success of its National Team.
At the grassroots level, rugby is often organized through local clubs, schools, and community organizations. These entities play a crucial role in nurturing the sport by providing training, coaching, and playing opportunities for individuals interested in rugby. These programs often focus on teaching fundamental rugby skills, fostering a love for the game, and promoting the values of teamwork, respect, and sportsmanship.
Our Mini Rugby programme is an introduction to rugby, focused on basic skills and movement, to build confidence for young boys and girls between the ages of 3 – 6 and 6 – 9, including:
- Catching and Passing
- Functional Movements
- Fine and Gross Motor Skills
- Multi-directional movement, balance, hand-eye coordination
- Speed, Agility and Creating Space
- Discipline and teamwork
- Build a desire and enjoyment for hard work
- Basic understanding of the game
- Good sportsmanship
- Having Fun
Our teams work hard to create a fun and respectful learning environment whilst at the same time giving our mini-players a solid grounding in the wonderful sport of Rugby.
Our Junior Rugby programme is the start of a long term development model of a successful rugby player, or for some, simply the beginning of an enjoyable and healthy fulfilling lifestyle. The Junior programme is designed for boys and girls between the ages of 9-12 and 12-15, and will build on the development gained during the Mini programme. It introduces more of the aspects and skills of the full game in a controlled manner, including rucks and mauls. We welcome players who are new to rugby as they will find that within a few weeks they are able to fully participate in the training programmes.
The Junior Rugby Programme is an excellent time to increase the player’s overall skill development, knowledge of the game, and level of fitness. It is also a critical time to form good habits and a consistent routine of study, exercise, diet, and sleep.
During this phase, we will expand on the Mini Programme to include our focus to:
- Tackling and Kicking
- The Breakdown, rucks, and mauls
- Game related fitness and conditioning
- Game Management and Positional Play
The Youth Rugby programme builds on the goals and skills developed in the earlier programmes and will focus on the 15-18 year age groups.
The Youth Rugby Programme will focus on all aspects of the game, performing skills under pressure, and the introduction of the full laws of the game.
It is designed to develop players based on the four core skills:
- Catching and Passing or Kicking
- Tackling
- Support and Evasion
- The Breakdown
All of the sessions will have one of these four core skills as its main focus which will be assessed and developed. Emphasis will be placed on the following:
- Communication and ability to make decisions under pressure
- Leadership, mental strength, tactical intelligence
- Technical skills assessment and development
- Speed, Agility and Quickness
- Fitness, Strength and Conditioning
Our skills development and coaching programs are designed to create the opportunity for the youth to upskill themselves through various sports-related courses, apprenticeships, and qualifications.
Through partnerships with national and global sporting bodies, we provide the necessary skills and training which allow them to get accredited and ultimately be in a position to be employed.
These skills development programs include:
Accredited World Rugby Coaching Courses (Level 1 & 2) through the Namibian Rugby Union
- Strength & Conditioning Courses
- Accredited First-aid training
- Physical Education training
